Memorization is encouraged, but not required. Time limit is 10 minutes. Please make appropriate cuts to the accompaniment or the solo to fit within the 10 minute limit.
- Judges will be professional cellists who do not have students participating in the competition. All judges decisions are final and confidential. Performances will be evaluated based on technical mastery, accuracy/intonation, tone, musicality, stage presence and artistry.
- A First Place and a Second Place entry will be selected. First Place will be invited to perform their selection on the Utah Valley Cello Society Spring Concert on April 26, 2013 and will receive a scholarship cash prize of $150. Second Place will not perform on the concert unless the First Place winner is unable to perform. There is no monetary award for Second Place, even if they do end up performing on the concert.
- First Place performer is responsible for providing their own accompanist for the Spring Concert at their own expense.
- A cellist may only win First Place once and will be ineligible for future Spring Solo Competitions. Those who have won Second Place are eligible to enter the competition again.
